A metal workshop founded in the 19th century, Carl Auböck is still situated in its original premises in Vienna, with the fourth generation of the family now at the helm. The company is famous for the modernist designs designed in the 1950s by one of the best-known figures of Austrian modernism Carl Auböck II (1900–1957). Made of solid brass, the Optimist/Pessimist sculpture is particularly iconic because it became the logo for the famous designer, as one of his most popular and celebrated designs. The sculpture boasts a beautiful mix of deep patina and polished brass, a signature characteristic of his sought-after work.
