Living Softly: At Home with Fanny Nilsson

Living Softly: At Home with Fanny Nilsson

Among the trees along the Swedish coastline, Fanny Nilsson has created a home that feels calm, warm and quietly lived in. Set in Falkenberg, Sweden, the house blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, where soft light, tactile materials and the rhythm of family life shape each space.

The story of the home began with a handwritten letter slipped into the former owner’s mailbox. Months later, that letter became the beginning of a new chapter for Fanny and her family, allowing them to make the coastal home their own.

“We wanted our home to feel warm and calm, yet full of life.”

Throughout the interiors, simplicity and comfort exist in balance. Portable lighting moves gently from room to room, large woven rugs soften communal spaces and collected objects bring warmth and depth without overwhelming the home.

Rather than separating aesthetics from everyday life, Fanny embraces a space designed to evolve naturally around family living. Toys gather into baskets, children’s furniture sits comfortably beside sculptural pieces and delicate objects remain part of daily life.

“I don’t hide away fragile objects,” she explains. “The children learn quickly. They need to take care of things, but they also need to be children.”

Vintage finds sit effortlessly beside contemporary Scandinavian design, creating interiors rich in texture and atmosphere. Weathered ceramics, sculptural lamps and worn finishes bring a sense of character and memory to the home.

“Imperfection appeals to me most, the patina of age, the softness of worn shapes, the curve of an unusual lamp.”

For Fanny, a home should feel welcoming in every corner. Relaxed, tactile and genuinely lived in, it is a space shaped not by perfection, but by warmth, ritual and everyday life.

At Mecque, we believe the most compelling interiors are the ones that feel genuinely lived in. Spaces shaped slowly over time, layered with texture, ritual and personal meaning. Fanny Nilsson’s home captures that philosophy beautifully, balancing warmth, softness and simplicity in a way that feels both inspiring and deeply personal.
