The Viennese workshop of Carl Auböck combines traditional craftsmanship with modern design. A metal workshop founded in the 19th century, Carl Auböck is still situated in its original premises in Vienna, with the fourth generation of the family now at the helm. The company is famous for the modernist designs designed in the 1950s by one of the best-known figures of Austrian modernism Carl Auböck II (1900–1957).
Good keys need a proper home; made from solid brass, the U Keyring features a sleek U shape design with screw cap end. The enduring nature of Auböck designs like the U Keyring can be attributed to “simplicity and high quality - no fashionable tricks,” says Carl Auböck IV, who now oversees the workshop with his sister, Maria. “Such artifacts develop a soul over time, a certain patina.”
